Amber Alert: Christian Contemporary Romance with Suspense (Dangerous Series Book 1) Kindle Edition   ... by Linda K. Rodante

After a disastrous engagement to an abusive boyfriend, Sharee Jones tells God that she’s not dating anymore. If he has someone for her to marry, he’d better just drop the man in front of her. She’s not thinking of the tall, handsome man who moonlights as the church’s maintenance crew of one—a man she feels sure doesn’t know the Lord.
Since the tragedy in his own life, John Jergenson wants nothing to do with God, but every time he turns around lately, Sharee is in his face—wanting help with her Christmas program, needing help with her car, even threatening him with a pair of stakes—and talking about God. He’s not sure what to do about her, but he doesn’t like the mutilated dolls they’ve found, or the homeless hitchhiker she picked up, or the fact that she never watches out for herself. With someone terrorizing the new mom at the church, and Sharee playing detective, can he keep his past secret and keep her safe long enough to figure out if he’s ready to love again?
Amber Alert is a warm romance, with intrigue, ‪‎mystery‬ and suspense; a ‪‎whodunit‬ with heart and faith. And an ACFW Genesis and First Impressions finalist. Best-Selling author Sandra D. Bicker said, “Amber Alert…takes the reader on a suspenseful ride with unexpected twists…and characters you’ll care about.”
Author E. J. Willis said that, “The characters…pull you into their story… there's just the right mixture of romance and suspense. If you like Karen Kingsbury or Dee Henderson, I believe you'll enjoy Linda's books as well. They're hard to put down!”

OUR REVIEW

The first sentence in Amber Alert by Linda K. Rodante hooked me immediately, in fact it's the crux of the story. We find the main characters in the opening chapter already filled to the brim with emotions that make us wonder why their feelings are at some kind of breaking point. Sharee Jones with her mass of curly red hair to match her intense stubbornness, and John Jergenson who is the maintenance crew of one in their beloved church.

As the story unfolds, more characters are introduced, all in some way or another ending up in the church fellowship, whether they are believers in God, or on the path to find Him.

Linda
I loved how Rodante showed the human side of Christians, their flaws, raw emotions and the fear that was building due to terror that was growing among the women of the church. What were the secrets behind those people that made everything finally come to a head?

It was refreshing to see the character of Sharee be strong in her Christian faith, but still had to struggle with the physical aspect that she was feeling towards John.

The pace is fast and descriptions short and sweet, which makes this a perfect suspenseful romance!

Victory Over Cancer! Vol 1: How To Take Control And Live (Volume 1) ... by Joseph Marx

After years of living with chronic acid reflux, the author discovered he had a very deadly cancer and set himself on a quest to be healed. This book is a story about his journey and reveals spectacular natural cancer therapies––that any patient can safely do at home––that are scientifically based––that have the potential to prolong life beyond anything conventional treatment can do alone.
What distinguishes this book is that the author exposes alternative cancer treatments that are little known by most people and are not part of the conventional cancer treatment system, or part of the national discussion.
For instance, this book shows cancer patients how to immediately attack their cancer, slow its rate of growth, reverse its growth and even cure it, using a diet strategy that exploits little known metabolic abnormalities of cancer, and also therapeutic levels of exercise, and targeted natural substances. It fact, it is entirely possible for a patient to literally eat their cancer to death.
Discover How To:
* Fix poor digestion and inflammation, key factors of cancer. * Use food as medicine in an anticancer diet. * Take control of the treatment plan early on, and how to avoid the many pitfalls with diagnostics, medical records, and insurance. * Integrate alternative cancer treatment remedies with conventional medicine. * Use exercise, alkaline diet, and natural supplements to smartly contain and attack cancer. * Use Sodium Bicarbonate to fight cancer. * Use cancer's metabolic weaknesses against it by using a combination of a low sugar diet, Ketogenic diet, and low methionine diet. * Prevent recurrence and know what to do if it comes back. * Determine if an Alternative cancer center is for you. * The power of faith in healing cancer.
AS A BONUS: * A list of extensively researched Alternative cancer centers. * Detailed table of foods by level of methionine. * List of foods by level of sugar content. * Explanation of how to stage your cancer. * Early detection blood and chemo sensitivity tests. * Natural substance sensitivity tests for novel IV Therapy.
APPROPRIATE FOR: Breast cancer, Bladder cancer, Brain cancer, Colon cancer, Endometrial cancer, Esophageal cancer, Kidney cancer, Laryngeal cancer, Liver cancer, Lung cancer, Melanoma, Oral cancer, Ovarian cancer, Pancreatic cancer, Prostate cancer, Stomach cancer, Throat cancer, and most other cancers.

OUR REVIEW

Victory Over Cancer by Joseph Marx wasn't what I was expecting, it was more then I hoped for. After devouring this book, highlighting passages that I found important to me, I  had to stop a few times to think back on my beloved family members that had lost the battle to Cancer. Thanks to author Marx who gives us his well documented story, I now realize how far we have come in helping ourselves overcome the once thought of incurable disease.

Yes, we do need the help and advice from trusted doctors but Marx has given us the alternative methods that could change the difference of the life and death battle with Cancer. I was also encourage by the fact that the story was laced with Bible verses of hope and encouragement along with the power of prayer shared with family and friends.

This book is set up in a format that tells us the battle that Marx was having, then explained how and why he chose the methods that he used. I was blown away by the powerful effect of diet changes and just letting go of bad habits. Finding the right treatment centers that will work with you and your healing is of the utmost importance, as surgery might not always be the first thing to do.

Loved the back of the book, as it has extensive information of types of foods we need to take a second look at. This book is not only for those going through Cancer treatments, but for those who are willing to first trust in God for wisdom and getting on the right path to a healthier lifestyle that will benefit you personally. An amazing, encouraging story.

The Wager: A Romantic Comedy as Christian Allegory ... by Mike Brister

Sarah Morgan Leigh Dumont is rich, successful and famous. Matthew Ezra Shepherd is none of those things. Sarah, raised in Connecticut, is the oldest child in a prominent family. Matt, raised in Mississippi, is the youngest child in a farming family. Sarah is a winner in life’s lottery and has a home in Malibu. Matt, a former Marine, is putting the pieces of his life back together. Sarah is driven, focused, difficult, and intimidating. Matt is friendly and smiles easily. Sarah is full of herself. Matt is full of mischief.

They meet under false pretenses in New Orleans, the city built on false pretenses. She sees him only as the object of a wager; he sees her as an object to be avoided—and yet.

What happens when love is uninvited, inconvenient, and demanding? When it keeps you up at night and distracts you during the day. When it counsels unreason, folly, and ruin. When it can breach any locked door, scale any high wall, or whisper above any noise. Fortunately, when it happens to someone else, it can be very funny.

The story is told primarily through dialogue which is presented in the style of a play. Descriptions are rarely used to explain how something is said. That is left to the imagination of the reader.

The story includes a Southern, gothic ghost story; an epic poem; a suggested playlist of thirty-five songs; and three recipes: Ruth’s chocolate pie, Matt’s buttermilk biscuits, and Lester’s pound cake.

Buy a book and help buy a goat for a family in Haiti.

OUR REVIEW

I was totally taken off guard at first reading of The Wager by Mike Brister. Thinking that this book was going to be your regular Christian romantic novel with a bit of humor, I was in for an amazing surprise.

Linda
The story sets the background of two opposite characters, giving vivid descriptions of their personalities, while not using the extra verbiage of when the character speaks, leaving it up to the reader to add our own interpretation or feeling of what we have imagined in our  mind. While the story continues of how these two unlikely characters meet under the unusual circumstances, I found myself actually reading it in a Southern accent, which is a credit to Brister in his style of writing.

I will say, I had that "ah-ha" moment when I connected the title to the story.

The humor is a flow of unbelievably funny and sarcastic banter, making it reminiscent to me of Lauren Bacall in How to Marry a Millionaire. I wondered how the two main characters could even tolerate each other, but found myself actually laughing out loud, especially at their encounter on the plane and dinner at the parents.

As the story progresses, you gain a deeper understanding of why these two act the way they do to each other, and immediately your emotions are racing to find out what happens, in fact I went back to the beginning to re-read about their personalities and whoa, I even had more intense feelings for these two.

Not to give any spoilers, but I will say my heart broke and yes, I needed my tissues since I fell in love with these characters. I appreciated the authors wrap up of the book, and yes...you will understand why buying this book will help a family get a goat in Haiti.

From the Author of new breath, new life for new day comes this gripping story that will keeping you wanting more as you learn to know these people with everyday issues and feel the Holy Spirit within the pages. Some may feel that the story is representing their lives and will want to apply these tools of spiritually for their daily own lives.

OUR REVIEW

I was moved by the beautiful Dedication that Elrich Martin, Christian author of God's Faith Mirror: Do You Glance or Gaze Into Your Daily Mirror, wrote to his wife and two daughters, such a loving husband and father.

The Forward sets the tone of the two stories, each completely different, but each finding out how God's reflection in their lives helped them to understand the life they were living. Some parts where heartbreaking, but author Martin kept the main flow of the book in an even pace.

Linda
I love the whole concept of how we see ourselves as looking into a mirror and seeing God's reflection of how other people see us. Here's just a preview of the book...Do you see yourself as God's image or your own self-image where the outer matter more than the inner? Do you realize you and me are representing God on this earth...

This book is broken down into easy to understand chapters, depicting each mirror of our emotions. The question remains...how will we react to the reflections of God?

SERENITY SPRINGS, OHIO ... by Lillian Duncan

An abandoned bird; an ailing aunt; and an unhappy fiancĂ©. What else could happen? Oh, yeah—a murder! Chief of Police, Matthew Travis moved home to avoid the violence of being a big city police officer, but murder shatters the peace and tranquility of his hometown.

It appears to be an open and shut case. A troubled teenager at the scene covered in blood with the murder weapon in his hand is arrested. Unfortunately, as Matthew ties up loose ends, his once open and shut case unravels.

And the danger escalates!

OUR REVIEW

I must say the cover of Serenity Springs, Ohio by Lillian Duncan attracted me to this book. Not only did it say it took place in the state that I live, but loved the look of the quaint, cozy town where it takes place.

Linda
Lillian has her finger (and pen) on the heartbeat of a small hometown in Wooster, where people know and care about each other. The first page digs right into the heart of the story, setting up the murder scene that takes on many twists and turns which needs to be solved, or can it?

Besides romantic love that has it's ups and downs, the love Matthew has for his family is truly heart warming. When Emily moves from out of town back to Serenity Springs, she brings along with her a great faith in God, and all that He can do for us. This faith plays a major part in the different outcomes of revealing secrets and finding the murderer. If you love to figure out mysteries and putting pieces together, this is the book for you! Thanks Lillian for a great Christian Mystery.

Devoid of all worldly comfort and consolation, will faith and hope be enough to get them through this chilling nightmare? And where is Charlene's hero when she needs one the most?

Christian suspense thriller for ages 16 and up

OUR REVIEW
Lisa Lynn
This was an interesting read about millionaire twins who were kidnapped by an angry man who hated the twins' grandfather.  As much as I love a good suspenseful mystery, this was a bit too much for me.  I found it too gruesome and at times hopeless and really wanted to just put the book down, but I kept telling myself it has to have a good ending, but I was disappointed in that, also.  I loved the themes of sibling love and religious hope (even though it was a lot of Catholicism), but it just wasn't my type of book.  I give the author credit for keeping my attention to see how the book ended, but I will not be reading any more in this series.

Tell Me ... by Joan Bauer

The unofficial town motto is "Nothing bad ever happens in Rosemont" where  twelve-year-old Anna has come to stay with her grandmother, Mim, hoping to forget her worries about her parents' troubled marriage.  She'll be busy with the town's annual Flower Festival, a celebration with floats and bands that requires weeks of preparations.

But before long, Anna finds herself involved in a very big problem. When she observes a girl her own age who seems to be being held against her will, Anna can't forget the girl's frightened eyes and she is determined to investigate. "When you see something, say something" she's been told—but what good does it do to speak if no one will listen? Luckily, a take-charge girl like Anna is not going to give up.

OUR REVIEW

Tell Me by Joan Bauer is primarily for 5th grade and up, but I have to say the main theme of this book knowing that it is fiction, is a bit over the top with the human trafficking subject. Yes, it's good to warn our kids about this tragic happening, but I think the author put too many troublesome problems in one story.

Even though the main character was incredibly mature, bold, sweet and along with singing and dancing talent, also able to cope with her parents breakup ... along with working with Homeland Security to help find a kidnaped young girl was just more than expected for the reader to be believable.

Linda
It flowed evenly, and even though I love YA books I have to say the author made unbearable events a bit too light hearted. How could such a young girl be able to pull off any or all rescue events?

Might be a great read as long as there is an adult that could answer any questions this book might put in the reader's mind.

Dumpster Dicing ... by Julie B Cosgrove

As Janie and Betsy Ann go for their morning jog, the city sanitation vehicle follows its normal five-mile Tuesday morning route through their retirement community of Sunset Acres. The two Bunco-playing biddies spot a leg dangling out of the dumpster when the truck lifts the trash container high in the air. Someone diced up one of their newest residents—a grouchy loner named Edwin Newman. Did he unpack too much of his dicey past when he moved in last weekend?

OUR REVIEW

Just the title Dumpster Dicing by Julie B Cosgrove is enough to entice you to dig into this story of three widows residing in a retirement community. But really?  Nothing but retirement for these gals! I felt right at home with these Bunco Biddies as Cosgrove perfectly nailed the lifestyle that they lived in the community. Gal pals always seem to find each other no matter what age.

Linda

Finding the diced up leg in the trash was only accidental, but it put these gals full speed ahead into investigation mode, as Janie was the widow of a beloved Texas police detective who always "bounced" his hard to solve murder cases off of.

Even though it was a gruesome murder, Cosgrove wove the story with such humor, I found myself laughing out loud at the antics these sleuths got themselves into as they went to great lengths to help in the investigation! Not only dishing out information with each other, but dishing up amazingly delicious comfort food...totally in character with the elderly.

I have to say this is more than just a Cozy Mystery, as it is rich in details, and branches off into a little sub-plot that adds more depth to these ladies personalities. The twists and turns were fun to read, but I'll have to say the wrap up at the end had a couple of surprises that I didn't see coming!  Humor and mystery to satisfy...but wait, a great introduction at the end of the book to Cosgrove's next mystery...can't wait to see what happens next.

Notes from the Dog ... by Gary Paulsen

(although this book is for grades 5 -9, I also recommend it for adults)

"Sometimes having company is not all it's cracked up to be."
Fifteen-year-old Finn is a loner, living with his dad and his amazing dog, Dylan. This summer he's hoping for a job where he doesn't have to talk to anyone except his pal Matthew. Then Johanna moves in next door. She's ten years older, cool, funny, and she treats Finn as an equal. Dylan loves her, too. Johanna's dealing with breast cancer, and Matthew and Finn learn to care for her, emotionally, and physically. When she hires Finn to create a garden, his gardening ideas backfire comically. But Johanna and the garden help Finn discover his talents for connecting with people.

OUR  REVIEW

I picked this book out of the children's section at the school library and after reading it, thought oh dear it doesn't belong there. But the more I thought about it Notes From The Dog by Gary Paulsen is geared towards the AP readers to challenge their comprehension reading skills.

The main character is a fourteen year old boy named Finn and his devoted dog Dylan. Although his household is made up of Dad and Grandpa, he is very shy and sets a few  low goals for his summer vacation. With the new temporary neighbor who moved in next door his whole summer changes. Johanna is a graduate student in her twenties with awesome people skills who just happens to be a  breast cancer survivor trying to live her life to the fullest.

Finn and Johanna make a deal to create a garden in Finn's backyard and through this adventure they become close friends, actually helping each other out emotionally and physically. Johanna is still going through chemo, but her goal is to raise money for the Cancer Foundation, even training for a race. But as summer comes to an end, all plans are laid aside after Johanna's condition changes. I have to say, even getting to the middle of this story I was tearing up not knowing what was going to happen. I didn't think the dog has that big of a part, but it was an important piece of the story. I highly recommend this book if your child understands more than just an easy, fluffy read.

To every thing there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born,
and a time to die.
A time to plant,
and a time to reap.

A time to weep,
and a time to laugh.
A time to mourn,
and a time to dance.
                        Ecclesiastes 3

This book is dedicated with all respect and hope to everyone who has ever faced cancer. ~ Gary Paulsen

OUR REVIEW

Yum! You can never go wrong when a recipe calls for a Hershey's product!

The title of the cookbook is reason enough to pick it up off the shelf and bring it home. Simply called Hershey’s Recipe Collection, this cookbook is packed with a large variety of decadent desserts, perfect pies, and everything in between! Although all the recipes looked delicious with their full page colorful photo, I choose something I never make: scones. Appropriately titled Special Dark Chocolate Chip Scones, all I can say is wow! The recipe was extremely easy to follow and accurate on the description of what to expect during the

mixing and baking process of these perfectly sweet and tasty scones. Let me tell you, they turned out fabulous! A definite recipe to keep on hand for company! I can’t wait to try the rest of the delightful recipes Hershey’s has gathered for me in this fun and user-friendly cookbook.

Here is the recipe I used:

Icing ... by Debra Sue Brice

Some people can only dream of living out their fantasies. Cupcake shop owner Denie Shaw is the exception to the rule. This young, witty and charming woman seems to have a perfectly balanced life. Years of making bad relationship decisions had given Denie, owner of Icing, the opportunity not only to become a strong, successful business woman, but also managed to involve her three best friends in her crazy cupcake adventures. Denie’s sweet life gets turned upside down when she meets her crush, Tom Billingsly, right wing for the Cleveland Monsters hockey team. Together, Denie and Tom strike up a relationship that seems to have all the right ingredients. Will Denie allow the fear of heartache to guide her choice, or will she take the leap of faith and trust God to provide a solid recipe for her life?
OUR REVIEW

Icing by Debra Sue Brice is a lovely, deliciously sweet romance of a young, strong business woman who has found success in the world of baking and owning a cupcake shop called Icing.  Denie keeps her social life busy with her twin sister and best friends, hanging out and enjoying the Cleveland Monsters hockey games. Besides the hot dogs and bottomless popcorn, she develops a crush on Hockey super star Tom Billingsly. Never thinking that anything would develop since first, her past relationships have failed since the guys she dated couldn't understand her moral convictions and secondly, how would they ever meet?

But after one of the games Denie and the girls have an amazing surprise in store for them and the fun takes off.  Denie's new feelings for Tom come to life and are stronger then she ever felt before, but will Tom understand, accept and share the faith of Denie's Christian convictions or will this relationship fail like all the others from the past. Will Denie ignore the pitfall of past heartaches or will she take the leap of faith and trust God to guide her in the right direction?

Along with the mouth-watering descriptions of cupcakes, there are lots of local land marks mentioned, adding even more "flavor" to this story.

The Fill-In Boyfriend ... by Kasie West

When Gia Montgomery's boyfriend, Bradley, dumps her in the parking lot of her high school prom, she decides to do the unthinkable…convince the cute guy waiting to pick up his sister to pretend to be her boyfriend for the night. The task is simple: two hours, zero commitment, a few white lies.
The problem is that days after prom, she can't stop thinking about her fill-in boyfriend. But can Gia turn her fake boyfriend into a real one without exposing her lie and possibly destroying her friendships and her newfound relationship?
Smartly observed and wonderfully romantic, Kasie West's talent shines in this tale of one girl's unexpected quest to find love…and possibly herself.

Our Review

How could the unthinkable be absolutely real? The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West opens with every girl's nightmare...being dumped on prom night, standing there alone in the parking lot and knowing you have to face the humiliation of your friends and "frienamies" on one of your biggest nights ever, with the possibilities of being crowned Prom Queen!

I loved the way the author draws you into the reality of young adult life, feeling every emotion that the main character Gia Montgomery is suffering. Out of desperation, Gia connects with the only guy still hanging around the parking lot after dropping his sister off, and wham...the lies begin to fly.  Such a simple act of saving face to her friends turns out to become a surprisingly twisted turn of events that can ruin friendships or possibly start new ones.
Linda

Romance has it's ups and downs, and how will Gia deal with her own emotions as she becomes to realize what is important in her life...popularity or being true to herself.

Who knows what we would have done in our days of youth in this situation, but the author truly has her finger on the heartbeat of this generation.

Feline Catastrophe ... by Victor S E Moubarak

A series of short humourous stories about a cat who is master of his own domain and tries his best to make his owner's life miserable.

OUR REVIEW

Of course this crazy cat on the book cover grabbed my attention, along with the title...Feline Catastrophe by Victor S E Moubarak. What I loved about this book was that the author didn't make you wait until the end for the funniest stories...they are ALL humorous  throughout the book:

The other day I caught him exchanging labels between tins of best salmon and tins of cat food. Obviously he wanted me to feed him salmon by mistake and for me to serve my guests cat food on canapés!!!

Don't worry, you needn't be a cat lover to fully enjoy this book, as the author has a bit of dry wit to spice up each vignette.

And yes, there is a dog in the house who has his own personality:

Linda
When he’s not eating he is very busy indeed … sitting on the mat watching TV. Any program would do … he’s not fussy as long as it’s the Dog Channel. When the TV is on he’d sit there for hours guarding the house. Or more precisely, guarding the TV in case anyone changes the channel.

If you need a good book to just to relax with and enjoy someone else's dilemmas, this book is for YOU!

Mending the Motocross Champion (Team Macachek Book 1) ...by Jean C. Gordon

Physical therapist Dana VanAlstyne’s dreams of a family were lost in the dust of a motocross racecourse. Although she’s filled her life with her work and church activities, it hasn’t filled the empty space inside her. Nor has it eased the heartache of being abandoned by a man who wasn’t ready for a wife and children. Now her dream is to open her own private practice. All she needs is the capital to make that happen.

Anton, “Mac,” Macachek may be the top professional motocross racer in the country but he still has one race that matters more to him: winning a championship at Unadilla Raceway and showing the hometown folks the bad boy did amount to something. But when a horrific accident sidelines those plans, he makes a deal with the woman he once loved with all his heart. A woman who abandoned him. If Dana will get him back in racing shape, he’ll fund her new practice. Then an even more dangerous risk is revealed. If Mac races again, he could die.

Does Dana have enough faith to risk her heart again? She loved Mac once, but feared he loved motocross racing more than he loved her. If she helps him mend his broken body, will it also mend her broken heart? Or will it all be lost again in the dust and danger of a motocross racetrack?

OUR REVIEW

"The shrill of the phone woke her to her worst nightmare." Oh yeah ... from here on in the reader of Mending the Motocross Champion by Jean C. Gordon keeps you at full speed! Dana is dragged back to the past she thought was over but never really quite forgot, as she moved on to a new life as a physical therapist.

Ex-husband "Mac" Macachek has had a horrific accident, and by some extraordinary events manipulates his way back into Dana's life, to help him recuperate his body and hopefully resuscitate the love that was once between them.

Linda
Their past life together is woven through the book and as we put the pieces in order, we find that there is more and more to the story then it seemed at first. Dana's love for God and her dedication to her Church clashes with Mac's love for the speed of the Motocross. Can God's grace and forgiveness bring them back together or does the glamourous life of wealth and fame be the end of a love story?

Just a side note, you don't have to know anything about Motocross to enjoy this electrifying story of two teens, now grown adults sifting through a rough ride of emotions.

OUR REVIEW

Author Kasie West easily puts us right in the middle of the traumatic daily life that high school student Lily Abbott faces each day, in the young adult book P.S I LIKE YOU.

Lily and Isabel have a bonding friendship that even boyfriends can't break...or do they? A little unresolved part of their past has been simmering for a few years and though thought to have been put to rest, through mysterious events pops back to the surface and puts their friendship to the test.

Linda
I was drawn back to those high school days when social circles dictated how popularity could make you or break you, as family, friends and enemies all played an important part in how Lily puts life into perspective, and untangles her confused emotions.

I found this to be an excellent young adult book, being honest about making mistakes, forgiving and finding that oh so ever "sweet, innocent" love.

Genesis ... by Bonnie Berman Shores

An unexpected move, an unexpected love, an unexpected world... Essie has been chosen "for such a time as this".

An aspiring journalist, Essie Jacobs is your average high school senior--a good girl--who loves superheroes, Joan Jett, Whoppers and classic rock. When her mom tells her that they will be moving from Bradford, Massachusetts to the tiny town of Eden, Georgia in two weeks, the normally logical teen freaks out. Her life is mapped out, after all, and it doesn't include a move to some hick town in the South. When the inevitable happens, however, her expectations of a boring summer are pleasantly dashed when she meets Ty Gregory, an irresistibly charming boy from a wealthy family. He immediately takes a liking to her and they become inseparable.

Bored with her routine once school begins, though, the independent Essie decides to get a job at the local nursery where she meets Michael Powers, the boy she had seen in a dream before moving to Eden. She learns that Michael's family and Ty's family do not associate, but neither boy will tell her why. Essie's curious nature takes her to the internet where she stumbles upon information about the Grigori. She's always had a feeling that there was something different about Ty and, when he finally admits that he's a fallen angel, she's anything but scared.

OUR REVIEW

An ordinary teen thrown into extraordinary circumstances...that is exactly what happens to Essie Jacobs when her life takes an unexpected turn her senior year of high school. Residing to the fact she is stuck in Georgia, she quickly gets involved with a handsome, charming and impossible to ignore young man who immediately steals her heart. But there is someone else who has been patiently waiting for her affection.

Wow! What a thrilling, adventurous, exciting, nail-biting ride Bonnie Shores takes you on in her YA novel, genesis. She shows the reader how we as humans can be so easily captivated by the lies and deception of the devil, yet still seeing the truth even if we choose to ignore it. She cleverly introduces each chapter with a song title that gives you a hint of what is to come in the following pages.

Debra Sue
The way the characters develop throughout the novel is subtle and well written. I very much enjoy the way Bonnie pulls the reader in and allows you to experience Essie's struggle as she makes her choices between good and evil. I can't wait to read what happens next!

Child of Dust ... by Shoba Sadler

Beautiful but spoilt Vietnamese socialite, Cao Kim Lye, learns of her parents sudden death from the dashing Amerasian family chauffeur, Bryan Nguyen. Kim steps out of a world of crystal and chandelier to enter the dust and chaos of the working-class. She finds herself living under the roof of a shop-cum- living quarters with Bryan and his adoptive family. Ever conscious of the privileged class, Kim struggles against the emotional ties she forms towards Bryan, the reluctant saviour, who considers her an unnecessary hitch to his already complicated life. He still bears the scars of abandonment by his mother and his American GI father when U.S. troops pulled out of Vietnam. Eventually Bryan and Kim's powerful attraction to each other begins to break down the walls between them, but is their attraction enough to blossom into a love that can sustain?

Our Review

Shoba Sadler author of Child of Dust, has opened a whole new genre of Christian romance and mystery in this heart wrenching multi-cultural novel. The Dedication...In memory of Amerasians, the least remembered casualties of the Vietnam War, although fiction, sets the tone for an eye-opener of a past to present history life style of the results of a factual event.

When Kim is told of her of her rich parents death, her world as she knows it begins to crumble. She is used to being pampered and spoiled and now left with nothing, surprisingly turns to the Amerasian family chauffeur Bryan, while she figures out what to do next. Family ties are not always what they seem, and secrets never seem to come out in the open...or will they? As Kim tries to function in the strange new life Bryan introduces her to, a new feeling of compassion sparks in the reader for her. We feel the actual flavor and customs of this new place, and understand a different culture that maybe most of us are not familiar with.

Linda
Social classes are a strong point in this novel, one in which the characters are in constant struggle to overcome. Bryan with his amazingly physical features, reveals quite a few surprises, some tender, some harsh, and here is where we learn the meaning of the title of the book. Christian faith is the main thread running through this novel, keeping hope alive for the characters, even though they might not realize why things happen for any given circumstance.

This novel has a consistent rhythm, adding surprise after surprise, twisting our emotions at each new difficulty Kim faces. I couldn't put this book down, waiting to see if any or all the ends would be tired up. I would actually like to see the novel transcend into a movie. An amazing read.

Lap of Honour: (Loxwood #5)  ... by Grace Wilkinson

In this final book in the Loxwood series, tragedy prompts a change in situation, and Georgia decides it's time to go it alone.
With the Five Year Old Event Horse Championships coming up, will she and Loxwood redeem themselves?

OUR REVIEW

If you are following this series, Lap of Honour: (Loxwood#5) by Grace Wilkinson opens with a heart pounding event that you never would have expected. If this is your first book of the series, you will immediately feel the rush of emotion as riders scramble to find out the result of a horrific accident that happened on the riding course. Lives are changed for humans as well as horses.

Linda
I felt Georgia's life became more independent towards her main goal, even though it didn't mean it came without hard work. Georgia's devotion  and affection is still torn between two beloved horses and not to give away any spoilers, the reader understands why she reveals her true love for one particular horse.

The last chapter wraps up Georgia's evolution of her horse career as of date, but yet describes in a tender flashback the moments how life has come full circle.

OUR REVIEW

WOW! That's just the beginning of what we think of Unforgettable Experiments That Make Science Fun by Steve Spangler! It's amazing, it's incredible, it's FUN! This book has all the elements (pardon the pun) that make science fun and interesting... the step by step easy to follow directions with incredible results, complete with pictures to make sure you're on the right path. Every "recipe" that we have tried so far has been a complete success, some with varied results. "Pop, bubble and erupt" are now our favorite words. We are on our third experiment in our first grade class and the kids are still asking for more.

The photography is exceptional and draws our attention to particular experiments that jump out at us and thus becomes "alive" in how we will produce the results.

A must in any age classroom or just for fun at
home.

Whitleigh Haynes wrestles with the boundaries of her limited faith after an unexpected marriage proposal leaves her wondering what to say to longtime boyfriend, Collier Cromwell, now Army soldier, who’s asking her to leave everything she’s ever known, loved, and planned.

OUR REVIEW

Wedding a Warrior is about a young college couple in love and contemplating marriage but also struggling to find what God wants for their lives. With Collier going off to join the military after 9/11, Whitleigh isn't sure this is the lifestyle she wants. She has her own dreams and ambitions of becoming a teacher.  Traveling around the world as an army wife doesn't quite fit her plan. Could she even marry Collier knowing this wasn't what she wanted?

This story is one many young couples face today. We have our own

Wait for Me ... by Suzanne Sanders Overstreet

It was July 1942. Dorothy Carlin says goodbye to her boyfriend Clyde Justin, as he leaves for boot camp. As she awaits his return, a twist of fate leads her to his best friend, Duane Sanders. Duane’s family has been through many hardships, but somehow manages to get through each setback without bitterness. Now they, along with an entire nation, do their part to bring home their sons and daughters and win the war. But not all of them will be coming home…

A story inspired by true events of hardship, loss, love and hope.

OUR REVIEW

Wait for Me by Susanne Sanders Overstreet grabs your heart within the first chapters. The reader is introduced to a warm and loving young family in which tragedy strikes quickly. Your heart breaks for them, although at the same time the author reassures us that their strong bonds of family love will keep them fighting to stay together to the best of their abilities during any hardships.

This story continues with the lineage of the Sanders family and how they struggled through hard times and great sadness, but yet they always found a way to go forward and succeed in the best way they could at any given life situation. I felt the heart of the story picked up with Duane, (a few generations later in the story) as his life changes drastically when the War becomes in full swing. Saying any more will be a spoiler to the reader, but as the author puts it..."Now they, along with an entire nation, do their part to bring home their sons and daughters and win the war. But not all of them will be coming home..."

Linda
I personally enjoyed this story since it takes place in a neighboring town close to me, in fact one of the characters comes from my home town. The author touches on real life places that are recognizable and still in existence today which added a certain depth to the story. She also give us interesting details about military life and the way soldiers were treated back then.

The heartfelt letters will bring tears to your eyes, as they reflect on the loneliness of soldiers away from home, missing the love from friends and family.

A fabulous read about family love.

On an added note: Deb and I attended the book launch of Wait For Me, and had a wonderful time. Susanne is a lovely author and very passionate about her book. It was amazing to see some of the family there that she wrote about. Just want to share a couple of pictures...

The Lodge at Bristlecone Pines Kindle Edition  ... by Thomas Bruce

They were left there to die. Six residents of a fledgling elderly care home. They however weren't done living and join together calling themselves Table 21. You're never too old. Never too old to live, to give, to learn, to challenge yourself, to be productive and to share your life perspective. That is what Table 21 learns during their time at The Lodge at Bristlecone Pines. Through their determination they create a home for those that have a life to live. Share this book with family and friends. It's inspirational, heart warming and funny. It’s thought provoking and starts the conversation: There’s got to be a better way to care for our parents.

A published author ravaged by dementia with stories still to be told, a retired detective who can’t turn off his investigative mind, an executive chef with nowhere to cook, a retired nurse who isn’t done caring, the retail executive with nowhere to sell, and a retired delicatessen owner who dreams of teaching his craft.

Thrown together by a simple table rotation at Chelsea Manor the six come together and form Table21. Their new home is soon taken over by Levi Jorgensen, an eighteen-year-old aspiring Olympic skier who, due to drug addiction, accidentally killed his grandmother.

In her will, Levi’s grandmother leaves the facility to him with instructions to renovate it into The Lodge at Bristlecone Pines. Levi however intends to sell the facility to land developers. Table 21, are a handful for Levi and escape on a three hundred mile journey to go and see a real Bristlecone Pine Tree to fulfill one of their dreams. They fight to keep their home, and what follows are the heartwarming hilarious adventures of Table 21 as they set out to prove that Levi is a drug addict who is stealing their medications.

Tragedy, however, touches both sides and causes them to open their hearts and minds to having empathy for their fellow human being.

Bristlecone Pines challenges the way we see and treat our elderly parents. It provokes change by reminding us they have amazing life perspective and can still be productive no matter what their age.

OUR REVIEW

So ok, now that I've wiped the tears away, let's start on this deeply touching and moving story on not only the main six characters of The Lodge at Bristlecone Pines by Thomas Bruce, but the elderly population in our world.

We are introduced to the residents of Chelsea Manor through a new and scared elderly patient, just starting her journey in life with  Lewy Bodies Dementia. Being strong as she faces her new life style, she is embraced by a lively group of diverse people who have found and established a mischievous friendship with each other, and unite themselves as Table 21.

As life moves on, we learn that the new owner of Chelsea Manor is woven in the story with a somewhat devious plan of his own. His drug addiction and his physical handicap plays a big part of his mind set of not following through with bringing a fresh start to the Manor as stated in the will by his late Grandmother, Sadie.

There is more meaning to the changing of the name to The Lodge at Bristlecone Pines then we at first know. As tragedy hits, the reader is uplifted with  scriptures that have meaning not only to the residents in the story, but a gentle reminder to those of us who have aging, elderly parents. Being old doesn't mean you still can't be productive as we learn through these characters. Mixing love and sadness, keep a box of tissues at hand.

Linda

This story brings a surprising collaboration of all the characters and their problems to an ending that, well, doesn't really end does it? As
the author puts it..."We don't need to know all the answers, or how the story ends. We just need to pay attention to the chapter that's laid out before us."

This was my first Fix-It and Forget-It Cookbook, and I absolutely LOVE it!  I have used at least two recipes out of each Main Dish section and they have all turned out wonderful.  Along with using them for regular family dinners, I have also used them for holiday dinners for the entire family, and everyone has loved them!  There is so much variety and variations in this cookbook, and I enjoy seeing who they were submitted by and where they are from.  This will definitely be a staple cookbook on my counter because I know I will always be able to find something to make and it will be delicious!

Debra Sue Brice's debut novel of Crossing Boarders was filled with exciting and  diverse characters. Dana Berrelli has worked and ridden horses all her life, and    now she finally has found the courage to leave her home in Ohio to train with
Canadian Olympic trainer Amy Arnot, where she hopes to achieve the potential  she has always dreamed of. Sending off her Hanoverian gelding Indie by hired  trailer first, she deals with the emotions any young woman might have in saying  goodbye to family and friends that have supported her all her life. Making stops  on the way to the Ontario farm, her first taste of mystery begins. Upon arrival at  the farm, Dana tries to keep her sarcastic ways in check as she meets her fellow students and a surprisingly handsome barn manager that challenges her unique way of looking at moral issues.  Life is not easy, but Dana sticks to her Christian beliefs and finds that she can enjoy the special uniqueness of people that she never expected to enjoy as friends.
Lisa
Knowledge of horses is not necessary to enjoy Dana's developing character.  Never having to worry about any offensive language or improper moral tone, makes this novel enjoyable and easy to read.

I Think I'm Falling for You...Diane Sawyer

I Think I’m Falling for You is a story about two very different people who might just be meant for each other. Elise is a straight-laced business woman who has no time for fun and games, building up her business in the memory of her departed mother. She has her business and her faith in God, and she thinks that’s all she needs, until she meets Tristan Maine, a man who has the power to turn her into mush.

There’s more to Tristan than meets the eye, however. He’s made mistakes in life but he knows one thing, he found the girl who could change his life and lead him down a path of faith, love and happiness; he can’t just let her slip away, he has to convince her of his sincerity and show her how much he’s willing to change for her. Can he win over Elise?

OUR REVIEW

I Think I'm Falling for You by Diane Sawyer was a delightful and easy read. Elise and her Aunt Jem were founders and co-owners of a popular bakery Tabithas AngeliCakes, in honor of her beloved and late mother.  Designing beautiful and delicious cakes was a dream come true for Elise, which she took very seriously. Her faith in God guided her through many decisions of this fast paced and demanding business, and checking in with God was a daily comfort.  When an opening for a qualified baker arises ... enter Tristian Maine, brilliant Chief Baker. Emotions between the two become confusing, and Elise asks God for strength and good judgment.
I enjoyed this "sweet", contemporary romance, which flowed evenly along with the refreshing dialogue. This a lovely read for a large age range.

Our Review

New Breath, New Life for a New Day by Elrich Martin is a mesmerizing testimony of his journey through a horrific physical storm. An onset disease turned his life upside down, and his struggle to manage through the pain effected his whole family. His faith in God deepened, while working his way through this nightmare. He tells us how God's strength is made perfect in or weakness, expressing many references to God's word, which is very refreshing.
A truly remarkable story that could actually bring tears to your eyes. Hopefully, all who read this testimony will be encouraged to place your trust in an amazing, healing God.

Can these two people put aside their rivalry—and their pride—and let their hearts take over?

OUR REVIEW

We love the contemporary style of this book set, using tablets, texting, and TV interviews. They are all easy and fun reads, each bringing in the faith of the main characters. Asking God for courage and wisdom without overdoing it adds that refreshing touch.

Lisa Lynn
Lassoed by Love...Coming from a background of owing a boarding stable, Lassoed by Love was a walk down memory lane of the not so easy but yet funny horse tales. Lindsey was in for the surprise of her life when the job she came for did not turn out as expected. The tables were turned on her after reacquainting with an old high school friend of whom she wasn't on the best of terms.  Determined to make an uncomfortable situation work, Lindsey listened and learned from the sarcastic remarks of the extremely handsome Steve, understanding the real truth about their high school past. We enjoyed the gentle humor and the turn of events which lead to the surprise ending.
Linda

Designed with Love...I have to admit, this was my favorite of the four pack. Three past high school friends---Jessie, Scott and Brendon---are brought back together as they compete for an incredible  prize with a National Landscaping TV show.  The conflicts begin early on, as Brendan had a way of manipulating people and events, and even the heart of Jessie.  Wow, I even gasped out loud a couple of times as surprise after surprise happened,
while this love triangle kept twisting and turning. The intensity of emotions kept me turning the pages of a delightful book.

More Than Meets the Eye...Putting all her efforts towards her professional life before finding love, Jensy continues to help her co-workers with love and kindness. When she finally gets the promotion she is well deserving of, enter Phil Quinn...the not so pleasant reminder of her high school days.  Being thrown together on their first project and Jensy's dealing with Phil's sarcastic banter, tension grows and she fights the feelings that are conflicting within her  As days come closer to the high school reunion, big surprises are revealed, and emotions are charged up to the max.  In the end, truth always wins out.

Loxwood... by Grace Wilkinson

There are three thousand horses in Newmarket, but only one is on Georgia's mind. Counting down the days until she can leave school and work towards making her dream of riding round Badminton a reality, Georgia James spends her mornings exercising Thoroughbreds at the track. The rest of her time is spent at event rider Rose Holloway's yard, and thinking about Loxwood, whose future as a racehorse is uncertain.
Always on the sidelines, is Georgia's hard work and patience about to pay off?

OUR REVIEW

 Linda
Loxwood by Grace Wilkinson drew me into the world of behind the scenes of horse racing.  Georgia was a young, independent girl, who lived her life for the love of horses.  Her small paying job of exercising them took every minute of her time, except for the riding lessons she could squeeze in from a loving and caring friend, Rose.

Georgia fell in love with one special horse, Loxwood, in which she dreamed of riding over event courses and maybe a little dressage.  Her home life wasn't the best and her day dreams about Loxwood where making her fail her studies at school, but she was determined to continue to bring out the best in Loxwood, so he won't suffer the fate of race horses that weren't fast enough.

I had a few "oh my gosh" moments reading this story, as I was already hooked with the same emotional attachment that Georgia was going through with the fate of Loxwood.  This is an excellent read, although fiction I found it very informative. 5 Hoof Stars

Vegetarian Recipes For Kids... by Savannah Redick

Everyday Vegetarian Family Cookbook contains some of the best tasting easy to make recipes for any Vegetarian that can be made right at home with your family.

OUR REVIEW

I found myself wanting to try several, if not all the recipes in this book! There is everything from simple snack recipes to the more complex ingredients of a larger dinner item to create. The directions are easy to follow for kids and adults as well. It is a wonderful introduction to healthy eating habits that might not be seen as traditional at the family table. I think this cookbook is a great opportunity to introduce children to healthy, simple options available to them and their families. The only thing I would like to see is a photo with each recipe to help me (or the kids) understand what they will be creating. Great cookbook!

A Perfect Stride: (Loxwood #2) ... by Grace Wilkinson

The past couple of months have been something of a dream for Georgia. Loxwood is hers, and every day is dedicated to training him to become an event horse. Friends are coming easily, and Georgia finally feels like she belongs. Anything seems possible.
But self-doubt clouds Georgia’s ability to succeed, and she begins to question whether becoming a professional rider is nothing more than a fantasy.
Will everything fall apart? Or will Georgia be reminded of the more important things in life, and get her act together?

Our Review

Linda
A Perfect Stride: (Loxwood#2) by Grace Wilkinson could be a stand alone book, BUT I would highly recommend you to read Loxwood (the first in this series) to completely understand the struggles that Georgia had to go through to obtain this magnificent horse. In this book, Georgia helps Loxwood adjust from the racing world of high speed, to the discipline of an under saddle event horse. The stress is mounting, as Georgia has her heart set on a high goal, which may or may not be within her reach. The training of finding the correct rhythm of the canter, the setting up for the jumps, became frustrating to this team, but Georgia finds strength and support from her beloved friend and trainer Rose as she still can't find peace at her own home.  During many months of training, Georgia expands her friendships with other equestrians and realizes that her life might just not be as bad as she thought. Many surprises unfold with the secondary characters, and a revelation about Rose is quite the surprise. I felt this author wrote as though I myself was hanging out with the main character, feeling all her emotions, and nerves. I will say... what a surprise last chapter.

OUR REVIEW

Linda
Whisper by Lauren K. Lotter takes a hold of you from the very first page...and I mean DON'T pass over the Forward or Prologue. This fiction story is based on just one part of the author's amazing work with training horses. In this book, Rachel works with her family's business of buying and selling horses. Although she encounters and trains many, she has never really found that special horse she longs for...until that fateful day at the auction. She spots a horse that she immediately connects with, and against her fathers first impression of absolutely not, their trust in the Lord to make the right decision wins out.

Rachel comes home with one of the greatest challenges she had ever had, and winning this horse over has become top priority over all the other training horses, as the Lord helps her with extreme patience. Her parents are always watching to keep her safe, by supporting and encouraging her to press forward. I won't give away why this mare's background is very important to the story, but will say that a mysterious and somewhat dangerous man is continually coming up personally against Rachel, and her family.

Cleaning tack and doing chores around the farm, along with helping in the training of her dad's horses on their two hundred acre farm, adds to the charm of this young girl's respect for horses, family, and most important...trust in the Lord. How the mare got her name is quite emotionally moving, and Rachel's patience, dedication and LOVE is truly inspiring.

A special treat is at the end, a teaser for the next book which introduces us to her sister's story at the farm. I recommend this book for teens to older adults, a very satisfying and inspirational story.

                                         Beyond The Pews...by Amy Ekwegh

Beyond the Pews by Amy Ekwegh is an incisive look at church as we do it today, compared to what Christ intends that church should be. With the delicate precision of a surgeon, she cuts to the bone, slicing away the dead flesh of pretence, religion and lukewarm commitment.

OUR REVIEW

There are so many references in this book to describe the content that I would like to use, but then I'd just be repeating the whole book! I had to try to condense my thoughts and focus on the main idea.

Amy has a relaxed and non-judgemental style of explaining why just going to Church is not enough to grow personally in your walk with God. Scriptures are used to backup and support her teachings of faith in our Lord, and the workings and importance of the Holy Spirit.

Linda
I love the way Amy sets up the comparisons of our daily encounter with God, to the reality of how we are really walking with Him. She brings our attention to re-evaluate our knowledge of the scriptures, where we are learning them from, and actually putting into use the true meaning of knowing the heart of God.

A great and insightful read, recommended for everyone.

The Blessed Woman Endeavor...by Tondeleya Allen

Everyday life presents many challenges for women. We are not alone though. Masterfully created, women were born to be a blessing, to be productive, and to walk with God. Yet, distractions, dangerous perceptions, and unhealthy relationships threaten to derail our ability to fully experience joyful living. No matter who you are, what you’re facing or what disappointments lie in your past, God loves you and wants to be present in your life. His awesome love will guide us, strengthen us, and transform our hearts and enrich every area of our lives. The Lord truly knows what we endure. The responsibilities of womanhood, marriage, motherhood and careers can be a tremendous deal to balance. Trying to honor biblical virtues, while combating today’s worldly standards, requires wisdom and strength from the Lord.

OUR REVIEW

I prayed before writing this review, as I so wanted to bring this book alive and share the amazing insights and lessons that The Blessed Woman Endeavor by Tondeleya Allen has to offer. First off, this book is a must read for women of all ages, single or married. In fact, there is a chapter devoted to the guys in our lives, Husbands Love Her Tender 101 that gently tells what women want and deserve. I took so many notes, that finally I threw them out and decided to just go with my heart on this book.

I believe this book should be a companion read along with our daily devotions. Each chapter is full of love, thankfulness, respect and wisdom of God. The author is writing from first hand experience, and instead of making this a manual of strict rules on how to overcome storms, she writes as if she was just sitting next to you, encouraging you, saying this is what God has for you and you can make it happen.

There are a few chapters that really stuck out to me, the first was the love letter she wrote to her daughters. How could any mother not be brought to tears by this heartfelt letter? The Best Dressed Man is not what you might think it means, and Ladies Love Yourselves is quite the eye opener.  The difference between strong women vs. strong willed women and submission is thoughtfully explained.

Linda
Each chapter should be read a day to let the richness of what God can do for us sink in and think about which scripture we need to use to build a better relationship with God and the men in our lives. I enjoyed her straight talk about making choices that are healthy for mind, body and spirit. As Tondeleya said, "never apologize to anyone for choices that work for you."

Debra Sue
Scraps to Snacks is a great cookbook to teach kids the importance of not letting your food go to waste! The contributors to this book had some really great ideas and super simple recipes to follow. I loved the safety tips given at the start of the book, and the pictures were realistic and very helpful. Missing Piece...by Uzo Okoye
A desperate search for what ‘more’ there is to life, eventually leads John Williams to answers. But tragically, everything falls apart, just as his journey appears to be complete. His picture-perfect life is stripped apart - piece by piece - and lies in a crumpled heap. To make matters worse, a troubling dark secret from his past returns to haunt him.
Will John accept his new reality? Is he brave enough to fight for the truth? Or will the enticement to return to his seeming perfect past prove too much of a temptation to resist?

OUR REVIEW

At first read of Missing Piece by Uzo Okoye, I found myself not liking the opulent lifestyle of John Williams, high powered and most sought after lawyer in a prominent law firm. His son had shut John out of his life, daughter Lola retreated into her own shell, and his wife Amy was in a miserable state. Their marriage hanging on by a thread.

Realizing the strong emotions I was feeling while reading this story, reminded me that author Uzo Okoye had excellently penned the right words in such a fashion, that I was actually believing this story was true, and I was taking this family and their troubles to heart.

As serious problems mounted with his firm and a suspicious event from his private life comes back to haunt him,  John's life spiraled into a bottomless pit, and the story unfolded by reveling each family member's past, and why they acted in the manner that they did. John reached out to an old friend, who had a completely different lifestyle from his. Decisions were made but the question remains, could life get any worse then it was, and will this new decision make a change?

This story is as real as it can get. Even though the characters are more affluent then the average everyday person, a life without God is still void.

The Boy Who Walked A Way...By Nancy Janes  6/26/16

With a deep and gentle meaning that is born of violent circumstances, The Boy Who Walked a Way is a rare young adult novel that appeals to both genders equally. Though born of Christian roots, this profound story is a perfect fit for readers of all backgrounds and faiths that truly inspires with its touching journey of self-discovery, belief, and personal mastery. With a rich and detailed world that has descended into out-of-control chaos, this grand novel is an epic, touching fantasy that will inspire and entertain for years to come.

OUR REVIEW

Debra Sue
In the story, The Boy Who Walked A Way, youngster Jal Valyhn, desperate to find his parents and uncle, sets off on a remarkable journey with the help of two likable and loving guides. Along the way, many encounters lead Jal to ask questions of this great new country they are traveling through. He learns many new lessons along the way, things he hasn't even learned in his studies. He is highly motivated to reach his final destination in hopes of being reunited with his family.

The story starts out with Jal helpless and searching for his lost family during this time of war. He encounters what appears to be almost supernatural beings along the way that show Jal his sense of troubles will be turned into such great peace if he remains patient. Nancy Janes uses such descriptive language, really allowing the readers to envision what these unique characters and settings look like. Readers who love dystopian adventures will definitely want to pick up this book!

The Icky, Sticky and Gross Fascinating FACTBOOK... By Shar Levine and Leslie Johnstone

Science is truly amazing but not always beautiful. Some things are, well, just icky, sticky and gross, not to mention smelly.

OUR REVIEW

This is a joint review, as the three of us found this book, Icky, Sticky and Gross Fascinating Factbook by Shar Levne and Leslie Johnstone a MUST READ for any and all kids...as well as those adults who are young at heart!

Colorful pictures, fun fonts, and fascinating facts are written in short categorized sections, each labeled with an Icon to help you decided if you agree on the information as Icky, Sticky, Stinky, or Gross.

"Nothing in this book will hurt you. If you have the courage to read each and every page of this book, you will be rewarded with enough bizarre information to disgust every member of you family during dinner."

Have you ever thought about HEAD PETS, BREAK THE 5 SECOND RULE, A FUNGUS AMONG US, CHEESY FEET, and HUCKTOOEY... to just name a few.

We plan on using this book for some of Deb's first grade class projects. The sections will grab and keep their attention, and will actually help teach them a bit of hygiene and safety.

Humor can be a great way of getting your message across to those readers who wouldn't give ordinary, everyday happenings a second thought.

Between The Flags: (Loxwood #3)...by Grace Wilkinson

Just when everything was starting to come together, life throws Georgia a curveball in the form of an unwanted grey Thoroughbred.
Between the challenges that come with looking after two horses and the new difficulties she encounters with Loxwood, Georgia feels like all her best laid plans are falling apart. And with the Young Event Horse Championships coming up, will she be able to pick up the pieces in time?

OUR REVIEW

Between The Flags: (Loxwood #3) by Grace Wilkinson picks up from the surprising last chapter of  A Perfect Stride: (Loxwood#2). We find out that Georgia has acquired a second horse...saving him from the fate of disposal from his racehorse owner. The problem is, what is she going to do with two horses, and how is she going to pay for food and board? Georgia is already living as close as possible to be within her budget, and all her money is being used as wisely as possible. Entry fees, hauling, and vet bills could really take a toll on this expanding team.  Georgia hopes that Rose will continue to be generous with her boarding facility to this grey gelding and make room for him.

As training goes forward, Georgia sees a distinct difference in these two beautiful and talented horses, and she loves them both...success at eventing maybe a dream that finally comes true.

Linda
When the opportunity arises that Georgia can show both horses, her thoughts kick into overdrive. Have they had enough training, how will they perform...a lot of what if's. Continually encouraged by her horse friends and Rose, this story really grabs the reader and draws us into what it is like to be on the course competing. I personally was stressed out as Georgia went from one horse to another during the event, as she skillfully handled anything that came up against her. Not to spoil any plot lines, but how this particular event turned out is both joyous and a heart breaker...and yet leaves us wondering what next is in store for Georgia and her dreams.    5 Hoof Stars

What a unique way to introduce children to a growing need in today's society.  Children will learn the importance of helping one another as well as respecting each other's cultural differences while reading this adorable Christmas story. Fudge-Laced Felonies (Christian cozy mystery) (A Summer Meadows Mystery Book 1)

By Cynthia Hickey

DIAMONDS, CASH, AND A BLOODY GARDENING GLOVE

While transplanting the rosebush her church's handsome greeter, Ethan Banning, inadvertently killed, Summer and Ethan discover a hidden stash of diamonds, a rusty can full of cash, and a bloody-gardening glove. This discovery sets Summer and her candy-making aunt on a search for a killer.

As Summer gets closer to the truth-not only of the theft but of her true feelings for Ethan-the diamond thief hatches a plan to hush the feisty sleuth.

OUR REVIEW

Fudge-Laced Felonies by Cynthia Hickey was my first introduction to Christian Cozy Mysteries, and what an amazing impression it left on me!  The story opens with Summer Meadows looking for a murderer in church, of all things! This already grabbed my attention, thinking...really?

This book was so fun and easy to read, I had a hard time putting it down. I kept thinking to myself, seriously, how can I be enjoying and sometimes laughing at the loveable actions of these characters?  Who ever thought that murders could be woven into a sweet, and wholesome mystery? Summer just opened a candy store in town when she stumbles upon something strange in her rose garden, and the detective side in her pops out and gets her into all kinds of trouble.

Juggling her emotions between two love rivals, a supporting group of friends and family, she digs herself deeper and deeper into this mystery, often calling on God for guidance to help her make the right choices.

I love the innocence of the characters and the plot, as it reminded me of how books could whisk you away for the pure enjoyment of reading and letting your imagination add to the written word.

This was a stand alone book, but can't wait to finish off the series, as the Cozy Mystery genre seems to continue with the main character and her sometimes off beat friends and family, finding and solving crimes to a final and satisfying outcome.

Linda
As an adult, I loved this book. Sometimes we just need a little simplicity to balance out our real life. Diamonds, chocolate, mystery, and hint of romance...good to the very last drop.

And that will make it easier to say no to the donut.

OUR REVIEW

I wasn't too sure what to expect when I started to read I Deserve A Donut (And Other Lies That Make You Eat) by Barb Raveling. It's not quite a diet book, but more of a "renewal of your mindset" about the way you are eat.

The author breaks down the different reasons why we eat, (which was right on the spot)  and then categorizes  the scriptures to remind us what God would have us do about the situation we are in that would cause us to break our "boundaries" that we have set for ourselves in our eating habits.

You as the reader, are to identify the current problem you are in, refer to that section in the book (also in iPhone app), and read the listed scriptures that would help us understand what God would have us to think upon, renewing our strength in Him.

The whole essence of this book is to change our mind in the way we eat, so that we will become pleasing to God and comforted by Him.  "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2

I loved and enjoyed all the scriptures that the author provided, but found this book to be more of a bible type study book, as it would help us in our daily walk with God, but not so much as a diet book. Maybe it's just me who feels this way about this book, as I have read the reviews already posted, and it seems to have helped other people with their struggle with food.

After reading the listed scriptures, I would like healthy food suggestions, meal plans, activities, along with maybe some Christian group interaction to help actually take off the pounds. I felt the author left us with the question of... what do I do next with my hunger?

For this reason, I have given this book two ratings.

The Light of Dark: Leah, Tobias, Bethany, Jesse Box Set Kindle Edition  ... By D. Gail Miller

All Tobias, Bethany and Jesse Weaver really want to do is marry their Amish sweethearts, settle down in their own homes and raise their (hopefully large) families. (If only it could be that simple.)
In The Light of Dark, three Amish siblings come face-to-face with a conspiracy of rebellion that has been passed down from generation to generation from ancient times and is about to explode in long-anticipated fulfillment. It’s the very last thing the Weavers (or most anyone else) wanted to invade their lives!

OUR REVIEW

The Light of Dark is a unique twist on the traditional Amish novel. D. Gail Miller introduces her readers to the norms of the quiet, secluded Amish community, while adding the extreme trials and turmoil of the English world that surrounds them.

The progression of the series flows from one character to the next, ultimately leading the family unit back together and renewing the strong bond they once had. Although there are many deep, dark and heavy issues within this story, D. Gail Miller allows all her characters to carry the burden of finding truth and justice. Along the way, each character finds that love prevails, even at the most difficult times.

Debra Sue
This dystopian novel leaves no stone unturned when delving into the worldly issues we are facing today. D. Gail Miller shows her strong Christian background and beliefs as well as her passion for living for Christ which shines through all of her characters.

A Super Wife faces every challenge with optimism and strives to handle day-to-day circumstances with grace, strength, and humor.

Tondeleya Allen, author of "The Blessed Woman Endeavor," believes every wife has the power to complement her husband and inspire him to be a better man.

OUR REVIEW

When I know I'll be reading a book by Tondeleya Allen, I make sure I am in my quite spot, where I can absorb and really take to heart the teachings of this author.  Her latest book,You Really Do Deserve Me is another example how women can face the challenges of everyday living without going crazy!

The author explains to us her past struggles and heartaches. By using Bible based scripture and her own life experience, she relates to us the possibilities that we as women can achieve. The everyday stress and aggravation brought on by the men in our lives,is addressed in the most reasonable way... that I myself have to say, I think I can do this so let's give it a try. Some parts jab me in the heart and it's an "uh oh" moment, yep I'm certainly not going in the right direction. There is no scolding in this book, just gentle nudges and encouragement.

Linda
We need to stop listening to other people and their advice, be bold and follow our dreams by just letting go of our anger in the most sensible way. In the first part of the book, Tondeleya gives us a reality scenario, then what to do about it. Just as a teaser, I loved  #22, #30 and #32... some easy, some hard to accept. The bonus chapters are filled with so much love and common sense, that they need to be read over and over until it sinks in your soul.

We will all read and react to this book in a different way according to our situations, but in the end as stated by the author..."The greatest rewards are rarely attached to the easiest challenges."

OUR REVIEW

Good Clean Murder: A Plain Jane Mystery (Book 1) by Traci Tyne Hilton opens with the main character Jane on her way to her first client of the day. Noticing that something was a bit off from the usual routine of her side job of house cleaning, (which paid for her Harvest School of the Bible education) she continued her house hold duties. Working her way upstairs, thinking about having only one semester left at school before she could quit cleaning and would be able to finally go onto the Mission Field, she opens up the bedroom door and finds her first dead body!

And now the mystery begins and takes off at a rapid pace! Being only twenty years old, Jane has a good head on her shoulders, but is mostly on her own since her parents did not agree on what school she should go to and how she should take care of her finances. She is stuck with a room mate that she found on Craigslist, a car she found online and book money that she still owes to the school. Juggling all this and determined to solve this murder of her beloved employer keeps Jane running into more predicaments at every turn.

Harvest School of the Bible has strict rules about dating, and, well Jane runs into a mess there too. Thinking she is making the right decisions about her life, love, and friends, Jane keeps adding more to her suspect list. Loads of twists and turns that keeps you guessing until the end.

I enjoyed this book not only for the "clean" read and how Jane handles her faith, but it also touched on current events that are important to us even now. (you'll have to read the book to find out!) I am really looking forward to the rest of the series.
