NEW BOOK REVIEW

Growing Kids with Character ... by Hettie Brittz

In Growing Kids with Character, author Hettie Brittz helps you identify your child's natural bent and how that affects your parenting journey. Through Hettie's famous tree metaphors, you will discover how to let kids excel at being who they naturally are.
Learn how to:

Cultivate your child's unique way of encountering, following, and worshipping God
  • Disciple and discipline based on your child's very own blueprint
  • Recognize your child's strongest characteristics and apply that knowledge to everyday life
  • Speak your child's unique dialect (or "tree language") to foster effective communication
  • Help your child recognize and celebrate God's individualized design for others

  • OUR REVIEW

Growing Kids with Character by Hettie Brittz is a great guide for new and struggling parents that flows with Biblical teachings. Brittz starts off with a few memories of her mom and thinking that she would not let the same things happen to her children as her mom did to her. But as time went on, God touched her heart and mind, and so this book begins.

If you love nature you will enjoy the comparisons of children to specific types of trees and plants as the common ground is growing to be strong in the Lord, bending but not breaking.

Brittz explains how parents also grow and change and that ... "sometimes we can do everything right and still have to look on as our children make poor choices. Like your own mistakes, a child's serious blunder is not necessarily a sign of bad parenting."

I think you can give this book a once over read, and then go back to use the different chapters as guides and tips to encourage yourself as well as your children.

    OUR REVIEW

Wow! This is a non stop read, from the unexpected beginning all the way through to the end. How does Mary Wade find the strength to get in and out of the perilous situations that keep tangling her personal safety along with the emotional drama that even surprises herself! You think things will smooth out, but her relationships with the other characters take detours and twist your gut with the "oh no" this can't be happening! It was a fast read for me, as I liked the unusual story line for a change of pace. Characters were written in a believable way, and the settings to right on. If you love romance AND mystery, this one is for you!

A Small Book about a Big Problem: Meditations on Anger, Patience, and Peace ... By Edward T. Welch

Look closely at any day and we can usually find anger in both our actions and attitudes. Things spill or go missing, we get stuck in traffic, and the people we live and work with often make life even harder. We want to stay calm, but what do you do when you feel your blood pressure rise yet again? Anger is so common yet it also destroys. It leaves its mark on us it s not healthy which is one reason we hear so much about finding peace. And it leaves its mark on others. The wounds we inflict on others when we are angry the loss of intimacy, trust, security, and enjoyment in our closest relationships give us compelling reasons to look closely at our anger and think carefully about how to grow in patience and peace. If you have just gotten irritated for the umpteenth time today, you might wonder if change is possible. Can anyone grow in patience and peace? Yes. But you need a plan. Biblical counselor and psychologist Ed Welch invites readers to take a 50-day journey that unpacks anger and encourages readers to become more skillful at responding with patience to life s difficulties. Along the way, readers will be introduced to Jesus, the Prince of Peace the only one who can empower his people to grow in patience, peace, and wholeness.

    OUR REVIEW

"Anger looks like Satan...and it summons him." is my favorite quote from A Small Book about a Big Problem: Meditations on Anger, Patience, and Peace ... By Edward T. Welch. A wonderful devotional for every day use that can help explain how to handle our anger.

We can easily blow up with anger and possibly feel regret, but do we really understand the concept that by following the examples set by Jesus we can actually gain control over anger. Author Edward Welch weaves scripture into everyday language so we can get a grasp on forgiveness to others as well as ourselves.

Do you know what is the cousin to anger? Do you know 10 ways to Bless and Enemy? How about murder? Welch backs up each answer with scripture that we might not have even thought of, and shares them in realistic ways and stories.

A great daily read, giving us some good goals to follow.
